Reflection:
This artifact is a blog entry that I created for an ITEC course. The blog entry focuses on two topics, internet safety, and global awareness. For this reflection, I will focus on the latter part of the entry. This section of the entry talks about Global Collaboration Projects (GCPs), which are assignments that allow students to work with peers beyond the classroom. The entry goes on to explain how utilizing GCPs will allow students to develop digital citizenship, global cultural, and collaboration skills. Next, the entry gives readers a few examples of GCPs and a web 2.0 tool that can be to support GCPs. The entry concludes by giving teachers advice on how to implement GCPs successfully within their class.
Standard 4.3 states, “Candidates model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to support diverse student needs, enhance cultural understanding, and increase global awareness.” In this artifact, I modeled the use of digital tools by providing some resources to use when implementing GCPs. These resources will not only allow students to share their thoughts and make connections with students, but it will also enhance their cultural understanding of students around the world. With this artifact, I gave teachers suggestions on increasing global awareness within their class by providing examples of web 2.0 tools, Flipgrid and Edmodo. These tools will give students the chance to practice digital citizenship with others globally.
Creating this artifact helped me learn how to connect my students with other students globally. Creating this artifact stirred me into finding web 2.0 tools that could be use by students in the primary and intermediate grades. I have learned so many wonderful things throughout this technology program, but there is not enough time for me to share it all. If I were to change the process of this artifact, I would definitely share my findings with my teammates. I believe that it is important to teach students to be globally aware because it helps them learn and understand other cultures.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacts both faculty and students. This artifact provides teachers with strategies to use digital tools to enhance cultural understanding. If teachers implement strategies stated above, they will help increases students’ global awareness. The impact of this blog entry can be assessed through the teacher's lesson plans and observations.
