Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. (PSC 6.3)
Artifact: Field Experience Logs
Reflection:
Throughout this Instructional Technology program, I have had the opportunity to engage in a field experience for each of my ITEC courses. Completing these field experiences allowed me to apply the knowledge that I obtained during my coursework. This artifact encompasses a number of structured and unstructured field experience logs. The logs give very detailed information about the activities I engaged in while completing the field experience, the population that I worked with, the number of hours it took to complete the activity, and a reflection of what I learned.
Standard 6.3 states, “Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards.” Throughout this program, I engaged in several field experiences that allowed me to improve my knowledge, skills, and dispositions for the field of instructional technology. After each field experience, I had the chance to synthesize my experiences, by first documenting what I learned about technology coaching and technology leadership from completing this field experience. I also documented how the field experience
When I learned that I was required to complete so many hours of field experience, I was surprised. I did not know how I would be able to participate in field experiences, complete course work, and work as a full-time teacher. However, I managed to do so, and I am happy that I did. Having the opportunity to engage in several field experiences gave me the chance to work with diverse settings and with a diverse population of students and teachers. Above all, the field experience has helped me improve my teaching practices and grow as a technology leader. If I were to change the process of creating this artifact, I would have made sure to complete my field experience with middle school and high school earlier on in the program.
My field experience impacted faculty development and student learning. Not only did the field experience require me to complete activities with my colleague, but it also required me to work students. Consequently, I took what I learned from my field experiences and shared with my colleagues through professional developments. I also took what I learn when I worked with students and applied those skills to my everyday teaching practice. The impact of this artifact can be assessed through teachers’ lesson plans and classroom observation.
