Vision
Over the past few years, there has been a trend of changes in technology in the United States to ensure that schools are transforming traditional classrooms into digital age classrooms. I wanted to be a part of that movement; therefore, I decided to get my Specialist degree in Instructional Technology in hopes of improving my teaching practices and to learn how to design and support technology-rich learning environments. Before starting this program, I used technology for interactive purposes, to show videos, and for drill and practice purposes. I did not even know that there were technology standards, but all of that has changed.
I am now aware that in order for students to thrive in a continually evolving technological setting, students have to be prepared. The ISTE Standards for Students are designed to prepare and empower students to ensure that learning is a student-driven process (ISTE Standards for Students, 2018). I am also aware of online projects, online publishing, and many productivity tools to use to support learning for all students. Furthermore, I am aware of the resources to develop and design engaging lessons that will foster higher-order thinking skills, creativity, and problem-solving.
I was told last week, that I would serve as the primary technology- modeled classroom for my school and district. As a modeled classroom, I envision using technology to further student achievement through a student-centered approach called blended learning. Within blended learning, I will incorporate Web 2.0 tools to foster 21st-century skills in communication, collaboration creativity, and critical thinking skills to aid in preparing students to become digital age learners. By doing so, I believe I will aid in preparing digital age learners for success in a global, ever changing society.
