3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure. (PSC 3.6/ISTE 3f)
Artifact: Seesaw Presentation
Reflection:
This artifact resulted in a Professional Development (PD) that allowed me to research an emerging technology tool, Seesaw. The purpose of investigating Seesaw was getting my colleagues to adopt an engaging learning tool that would allow students to display their work with their teacher as well as their family. The Professional Development (PD) gave an overview of Seesaw and its mission, the targeted population, how to access Seesaw, and how it can be used to promote learning. The PD also outlined how Seesaw support is Cobb County’s technology vision and my principal’s technology vision. Teachers were also able to explore the digital tool as a student and set their classroom to use Seesaw the next day. At the end of PD, I shared ways to incorporate Seesaw, technical support, and limitations.
Standard 3.6 states, “Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure.” When considering an emerging technology to evaluate, I had to think about a digital tool that would be relevant, engaging, and easy to implement. The technology tool also had to support with my County and School’s vision for technology. Next, I collaborated with my colleagues through an interest survey, giving them the option between three emerging technologies; Flipgrid, Class Dojo, or Seesaw. I selected and evaluated Seesaw based on the survey results and verbal feedback from my colleagues.
Completing this artifact gave me the experience of conducting my first PD. This experience not only allowed me to collaborate, select, and evaluate digital tools, but it also helped me to get over my fear of presenting in front of others. Implementing the PD allowed me to step into a leadership role and build my confidence as a leader. If I had the chance to improve the process of this artifact, I would make sure to invite more grade levels to the PD.
The work that went into creating the artifact impacted faculty learning. Faculty was to enlighten about the benefits of Seesaw. Faculty also discovered ways to engage students through technology beyond practice and drill. The impact can be assessed through the use of administrator walk throughs and lesson plans.
