From the start of this Ed. S program I have continuously stressed that I was pursuing my degree in instructional technology to improve my teaching practice and to help prepare digital age learners. Coaching is something that I never desired to do, so I was pretty apprehensive when I learned that I would be coaching a colleague as well as developing and conducting a Professional Development (PD). Up until very recently, my view on coaching has changed. As a result of this course, I have had the chance to work one on one using a partnership approach with a colleague. My coaching experience has helped me step out of my comfort zone and has helped me grow as a teacher leader immensely.
According to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s Instructional Technology Standards, coaches should facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. Leading the one-hour PD on a digital portfolio tool called Seesaw gave me the opportunity to implement my principal’s technology vision that would enhance and support transformational changes throughout my school. Leading the PD made me realize that adults are just like students; they all come in on different levels and with different background knowledge of technology. Although this assignment was a bit overwhelming for me in the beginning, it has helped me to learn a lot about PD and delivering information to teachers. I have faced a lot of challenges in this particular course. Nevertheless, this course has helped me to become confident in myself and my ability to coach others. I plan to continue to coach my teammates, first-grade partner, and colleagues who joined my PD
